Thousand Word Fridays: Fire

When the anger settles with the ash,

Will the fires resume their hibernation?

Fitful sleep that never rests, only starves

Weaving new blood into the fabric that binds

That shields, that neglects the wound

But staves the infection

Or will the redded streets sprout branches

Returning asphalt to its stones

Will the world itself arise

And weave its bloody branches

Into the arms of a people waiting

A trellis to divide the sky

And rip the heavens open…

Being exposed to the native cultures of the Pacific Northwest was a humbling and transformative experience, drawing me into a rich visual vocabulary and tradition. The dove is a constant symbol in our house, a symbol of the peacework that my partner does and a sign of covenant and promise, the constant search for a peaceful and solid place to land. For the love… (Happy Valentine’s Day)

For the love that bound my mother’s heart to mine on the day I was born;

For the love that a calming voice wove in my father’s strong arms;

For the love that meant my brother didn’t leave me behind Continue reading

An Amazing Video of Hope (and why I decided to go back to school)

I know I talk a lot about business school and its impacts on me, but I thought I would re-share this video that inspired me about a year ago and convinced me that while the future is hard and scary to imagine (especially in the medium term of 20-40 years), I actually believe we have the opportunity to leave the 20th century behind and find a new and better way of being together. Maybe that has something to do with disassembling the categories of the 19th and 20th century that keep things like business and “social good” separate. I hope so…
