Things that happened on October 14th

Here are some things I think are pretty interesting that happened this day in history.  Anything you would add?

  • 1888 – Roundhay Garden Scene – the first motion picture was filmed in the UK and was 2.11 seconds long
  • 1890 – Dwight D. Eisenhower, the 34th President of the United States, was born in Denison, TX
  • 1894 – Edward Estlin Cummings was born in Cambridge, MA
  • 1908 – Chicago Cubs won game five to clinch the World Series, this was their last World Series title to date
  • 1926 – Winnie-the-Pooh was first published
  • 1927 – Sir Roger Moore, most known as James Bond, was born in London, England
  • 1939 – Ralph Lauren, famous American Fashion Designer, was born in the Bronx with the birth name of Ralph Lifshitz
  • 1943 – One of the two successful uprising by Jewish prisoners occurred in Sobibor, Poland.  of the 600 prisoners, 300 successfully made it out of the camp but only 50 or so survived the war.
  • 1944 – Erwin Rommel was allowed to commit suicide after being discovered in a plot against Hitler
  • 1961 – Isaac Mizrahi, famous American Designer, was born in Brooklyn
  • 1977 – Bing Crosby died of a heart attack on the 18th green after just having beaten two spanish golf pros with a friend
  • 1978 – Usher Raymond IV was born in Dallas, TX
  • 1979 – The first National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights took place
  • 1990 – Leonard Bernstein, famous American Composer, died five days after announcing his retirement from conducting orchestras
